Come on out to NYU’s Glucksman Ireland House on the Friday after St. Patrick’s Day to hear some music on flute and button accordion! Dan and I will be back in NYC for the weekend, and are excited to have been asked to play at this wonderful venue. More details available here.
“Button accordion standout Dan Gurney grew up in New York’s Hudson Valley and got much musical inspiration from two local east Galway emigrants, flute and whistle player Mike McHale and multi-instrumentalist Msgr. Charlie Coen. He got practical instruction on his chosen instrment from button box virtuosi Billy McComiskey, John Nolan and John Whelan. Dan has spent much time in Ireland, where he met his partner Christina Dolphin, an All-Ireland champion flute and tin whistle player from County Dublin who has lectured on ethnomusicology, is on the teaching staff of the New York Irish Arts Center, and performs on Broadway in the orchestra for the hit show Come From Away”
