Tin Whistle Instructor at the Catskills Irish Arts Week 2018

This is one of my all-time favourite Irish music festivals. I have been there just for fun the past three years in a row, and am excited to have been asked to teach this year! I will be teaching tin whistle as part of the Stepping Stones program, which welcomes people who are brand new to the tin whistle as well as those who are familiar with the basics.

Adults and youths are welcome to this fun class where we will begin to explore the world of Irish traditional music by learning a variety of simple tunes which are associated with various regions in Ireland. We will learn tunes by ear, adding in some basic ornamentation and breathing techniques as we go along. For more details & registration, click here

FairPlé: New York

FairPlé | Gender Balance in Irish Traditional & Folk Music

Founded in 2018, FairPlé is a movement that aims to promote female representation in the production, performance, promotion, and development of Irish traditional and folk music. FairPlé Day is an international collective action set in the first weekend in June that aims to inspire conversation about equality and fair practice, and celebrate the richness of our music. I am happy to be part of such a positive movement towards productive conversations about gender balance and equality of opportunity within the Irish Arts.

New York is one of many concerts that will take place in Ireland and the US to support this action. I am excited to be performing alongside many of the finest musicians in the New York Irish traditional music scene: Katie Linnane (fiddle), Ivan Goff (uilleann pipes), Maeve Gilchrist (harp), Dan Gurney (button accordion), Maeve Flanagan (fiddle), Jenna Nicholls (singer), and Brendan O’Shea (singer).

The founders of FairPlé include singers and musicians Karan Casey, Padraigín Ní Uallacháin, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Niamh Parsons, Niamh Dunne, Pauline Scanlon, Niamh Ní Charra, Síle Denvir, and Úna Monaghan.

Christina teaching @ the Catskills Irish Arts Week Fall Series 2017

I am very excited to be teaching and performing at the Catskills Irish Arts Week Fall Series in East Durham on Columbus Day weekend this year! Now in its 5th year running, this is a mini version of the big week in July (one of my favourite festivals ever!), featuring about a dozen teacher musicians, singers and dancers. Workshops, ceili dances, sessions and concerts will be held over the weekend. The Catskills is one of the most beautiful places to be in the fall, so why not make a day of it, and fit in a hike before settling into one of the pubs for a great night of Irish traditional music, song, and dance!
